The latest numbers from the King County Elections office indicate that 86 percent of the Klahanie-area ballots counted in the April 28 election favored annexation to Sammamish. After the election is certified, the Sammamish City Council will set an official annexation date, at which point the roughly 11,000 residents of Klahanie and several adjoining neighborhoods will become residents of Sammamish, raising the city's population to around 60,000.

"We look forward to serving the people in the annexation area," City Manager Ben Yazici said, "and we're proud that they chose to join us. Sammamish is a great city, and I think we just got better."

After all the transitional processes are complete, the annexation is expected to become official by the end of this year.
