Sammamish Landing Project Updates:

July 2016

Design of an accessible (ADA) ramp leading from East Lake Sammamish Parkway (ELSP) to the East Lake Sammamish Trail corridor and to Sammamish Landing Park beyond, will commence this Fall. Construction is expected to occur next year (2017). The current gravel pathway only serves as a temporary access.

Other pending improvements comprise of minor right of way modifications including a designated crosswalk and turning lane on East Lake Sammamish Parkway (ELSP) as well as accessible (ADA) parking and a drop-off stall, west of the parkway. Lastly, a permanent prefabricated public restroom will be installed concurrently with these improvements.

Phase II Improvements

In response to the success of the park and the high volume of users, City Council authorized the design and construction of a parking lot on City-owned parcels east of the Parkway. The construction of the parking lot was completed in 2016. Associated ADA improvements however, are still pending.

Phase I Improvements:

The construction of the first phase of improvements were completed in 2013. View the beach party video from the beach party held for the grand opening in July 2013.

The first phase was a modest attempt to open the park to the public with minimal improvements. Proposed improvements consist of two picnic shelters, a trail head, improvements to existing trails and access to existing pocket beaches. Other amenities include a portable restroom with an enclosure, site furnishings and opportunities for art and interpretive experiences. The two existing docks have also been replaced with floating docks to accommodate seasonal water fluctuations and be available for year-round use.

The Phase I development project was brought in-house as a cost savings measure.  Design and construction documents for the project, with the exception of the docks, were completed in-house by the parks planning team. Most of the project, with the exception of the picnic shelters and docks, has been constructed in-house by the city’s Operations and Maintenance crew.

Access to the Park:

The park is located at 4607 East Lake Sammamish Parkway NE. Parking is available at a parking lot across the street from the park and on the Parkway in designated areas.

For more details on how to get to the trail, please access King County's website.

Project Summary:

The Sammamish Landing is a 8.23 acre site located along the eastern shoreline of Lake Sammamish at the northwest corner of the City of Sammamish. It is the only stretch of land along the shoreline of Lake Sammamish that is in public ownership within the City limits. King County property and the East Lake Sammamish multi-use trail bisect the project site.  The master plan (adopted in July 2010) was reviewed and coordinated with the County in an effort to incorporate the trail into the design and deliver a seamless experience to the park/trail user.

Goals and Benefits:
  • To provide public access to Lake Sammamish.
  • To enhance and protect the environmentally sensitive shoreline areas.

Sammamish Landing

Project Background:
In 2001, the City received a gift of 1,470 feet of Lake Sammamish waterfront property valued at $4.8 million. In March 2009 the City of Redmond transferred five neighboring parcels to the City of Sammamish. A few privately owned parcels interrupt the land in public ownership. The City purchased two of these private parcels in March 2011. The project site is therefore not contiguous but extends approximately 2,750 feet along the shoreline.

The City’s Model Master Plan Process was conducted from July 2008 to May 2010 to arrive at a revised preferred master plan for Sammamish Landing. Community input was obtained through a web-based community survey and three public meetings. Check-in meetings were also held with the Parks Commission and the City Council at each stage of the process.  A SEPA review of the master plan was completed and a determination of non-significance was issued in June 2010. The master plan for Sammamish Landing was adopted by Council at a Regular Meeting held on July 20, 2010.

A detailed list of meetings is included below. Public comment is entertained at all Commission and Council meetings.
